Fend off Frizz - Top Tips to keep your hair sleek this Winter

Frizzy hair. Whether you barely notice it, or it feels like a constant battle to keep it under control, sometimes you just want to have a frizz-free hair day. We know that winter can be a particularly tricky time to keep your locks looking sleek, so we got Haringtons UK Creative Director, Barry, to share his top tips for fighting frizz below for us.

1. Use a good serum

With an overwhelming number of hair serums out there, it's not easy to find one that's going to both give you the results you're looking for and be suitable for your hair type all at the same time. Here's what Barry recommends:
''Look for something that will remove frizz and fluff, but not make it lank and heavy. I recommend Kérastase Elixir. It helps seal the appearance of split ends and smoothes the hair fibre for long-lasting frizz control and works well on all hair types''

2. Detangle to Prevent Damage

Trying to smooth knots without causing breakage or frizz can be a stressful and even a painful process, especially if you're not using the right tools, techniques or products to support your hair type.

''Always use a wide-toothed comb or a wet brush to detangle your hair - they are designed to prevent damaging your hair by gently detangling. Quick tip: work in sections and gently comb from tips up to the root to avoid pulling stubborn strands that may be knotted.''

3.  Invest in your Home-Care Products

Do you give your hair the same attention as you do your skin? Consider introducing professional hair products into your at-home routine for the best results. Barry knows just how important it is to take your salon experience home with you:

''It can get really expensive once you add shampoos and conditioners onto your salon visit, but I promise your hair will love you for it! Salon's stock the best haircare products and I am always of the opinion that if you’ve spent a lot of money getting your hair cut or colour to look good, it feels like such a waste to then use inferior products as soon as you get home. At Haringtons, your stylist will always be happy to talk you through the right products for your hair, so take full advantage when you're in the chair and don't be afraid to ask questions.''

4. A Cold Rinse

From a technical point of view, cold water helps to close hair cuticles and smooth the hair shaft, resulting in shinier locks overall. This will also help to control breakages, frizz and pesky flyaways, which is especially important for those with curly hair.

''It will take some getting used to, but rinsing your hair with cool (or preferably cold!) water after you wash it will help you stay in control of your hair even before products are applied. It's an added bonus that this small tip helps to enhance shine too!''

5. Treating Frizz

In addition to everything we've mentioned above, we also recommend taking some time to really treat your frizz. An in-salon or at-home treatment will help combat frizz by penetrating the hair and hydrating it from the inside out.

''If a client came to me asking for a frizz-fighting treatment, I'd instantly be inclined to recommend a semi-permanent solution. If you follow every curly-hair tip going, and still battle to keep control of your curls, then I would consider investing in a KeraStraight conditioning treatment. It's amazing for removing frizz to make hair much more manageable, and it's available at all Haringtons salons! Ask for more information when you next visit.''
